Bacula Systems SA officially forms as a company; offers advanced, high quality professional support to the enterprise for the Bacula Backup and Recovery Platform.
Yverdon-les-Bains, Switzerland – October 1, 2008 – Bacula Systems SA today announced its creation as an Open Source Enterprise-level support organization, and unveiled its full support offering to the enterprise. Bacula Systems delivers support, training, consulting and development services via a subscription model directly and through its certified partners to end-users and the community of Bacula, the open-source backup program. Bacula Systems has been created by eight founders, consisting of experienced Bacula developers, successful backup consultants, system administrators and business managers.
“Due to overwhelming demand by many of the thousands of Bacula users, we have formed a specialized support and services company for professional and mission-critical users of Bacula software, including world-class 24×7 commercial support”, said Dr. Kern Sibbald, leader of the Bacula Community and Chairman and CTO of Bacula Systems. “Now, the enterprise is in a position to take advantage of advanced Open Source backup technology and realize huge savings” added Dr. Sibbald.
One of the initial adopters of Bacula Systems support services is Bank Austria, who rely on Bacula for their backup solution. “Bank Austria needed a scalable solution at an attractive price that performed in the same class – or better – than an enterprise-level proprietary solution” said Klaus Horak, head of BE3SM, Bank Austria. “Bacula has enabled us to increase the reliability of our mission-critical backup environment, while reducing costs by over eighty five percent. Bacula support is outstanding” said Horak.
Adding to the momentum of the launch of Bacula Systems, Linux publisher Mandriva SA announced a strategic partnership with Bacula Systems today. Mandriva will be a reseller of the Bacula Systems Subscription and offer Bacula Systems certified training, complementing Mandriva’s own suite of products and services. “Mandriva is committed to offering its customers the highest quality service available, and is proud to have become a Bacula Premier Partner”, said Sébastien Lefebvre, Vice President, Enterprise Business Unit, Mandriva. “Together, Mandriva and Bacula Systems present a special opportunity for the enterprise to realize significant cost savings in their backup solutions, while receiving highest quality support services” added Mr. Lefebvre.
The inclusion of Bacula in the Mandriva distribution will further broaden the wide choice of major Open Source distributions from which Bacula installable packages are available. In addition to Mandriva, Bacula Systems offers support for the following platforms: Red Hat, Solaris, Fedora, Debian, FreeBSD, OpenSUSE, and Ubuntu. Bacula can be built from source on all Linux distributions as well as most Unix distributions. Also, the Bacula project distributes a binary installer for Windows.
Bacula Systems will initially offer its consulting services in Europe, but offer the Bacula Systems Subscription world-wide. “Our main objective today is to work as a level three support supplier. We are seeking to certify further Bacula Systems partners. Together, we will aim to deliver the best possible support and services to users of Bacula” said Jack Griffin, CEO of Bacula Systems.
